Stocks Green: A Wildlife Haven
At Stocks Green we are incredibly fortunate to enjoy extensive grounds, including two ponds, a living willow dome, school garden and orchard, as well as vast fields, trees and hedgerows. All of these provide habitats for a large variety of creatures, e.g. a number of birds (robins, blackbirds, pigeons, blue tits, crows, wrens and ducks), hedgehogs, foxes, snakes and even Great Crested newts!
We endeavour to maintain and extend our wildlife conservation efforts by completing several projects over the next few terms (as and when funds allow).
The children surveyed the grounds, discussing what provision was already in place and which areas we could support.
We identified several structures which would benefit the wildlife (and us learning about it)
- bug hotels
- bat boxes
- hedgehog houses
- bird feeder tables
- a bird bath
- dead log pile for toads and bugs
- a bird-box with integrated camera
- more flowers/flowering plants to attract bees and other insects
We aim to hold a green fundraising day to afford the materials needed to achieve these goals.
Any unwanted ladybird towers, bird boxes, tools and plants are always greatly welcome and appreciated.
Please contact Miss Richards, the Year 3 class teacher, if you have any questions.
