Sports Funding

At Stocks Green, we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of the children. We believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all our children.
Our Primary School Sport’s Funding will enable us to continue and extend our provision through employing additional sports professionals, entering into  competitive sports competitions and training our staff to deliver in-house quality PE sessions.

What is the Sports Premium?
The government provided funding of £150 million per annum for the academic years 2013/14 and 2014/15 to provide new and substantial primary school sport funding. The funding was provided by the Department for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and saw money going directly to primary schools to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE . Each school recieved £8,000 plus an extra £5 per pupil each year for the following two years – at Stocks Green that meant around £8,440 a year.

Since then, on 28th July 2017, the Department for Education (DfE) has announced some changes to the Primary PE & Sport Premium pages on the website to reflect recent ministerial decisions on the allocation formula for the doubled Primary PE & Sport Premium.

The high level changes are that from September 2017 mean that we will receive £16,000 and an additional payment of £10 per pupil

The money can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.

We have used some of these funds, combined with funding from club subscriptions, to invest in new team sportswear for the children and coaching staff, including tracksuits branded with the school name and new football strip. This kit will be used by any and all of our teams for competitions here or away, such as swimming matches, athletics and running. The children look incredibly smart in their new kit (photos will follow) and we know they will take extra pride in representing our school.

Purpose of the funding
Schools will have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.

We have used the funding for:

  • Membership of 'Sprint Ltd' who  provide us with expert staff training, additional coaching and entry to competitions such as Indoor Athletics, Cricket and basketball.
  • PE resources and storage and sports kit
  • Skip2Bfit workshops for the whole school
  • Tag rugby coaching
  • Kidzfit workshops – whole school
  • Gymnastics lessons/staff training – whole school
  • Football coach – football club after school
  • Transport for athletics and dance events
  • New football goals – socketed
  • Expert advice to evaluate our sports curriculum and provide new planning materials
