Welcome to our sports page!

At Stocks Green we firmly believe that active children are healthy and happy. We strive to provide a wide range of interesting and stimulating physical activities for our children, which are challenging whilst ensuring that all children are comfortable taking part and can take pride in their own progress.

We make no apologies for promoting a healthy competitive spirit in our individual and team sports, so we celebrate (wildly) when we win, and show great sportsmanship when we lose.

We enter teams into a variety of competitions over the year, and we are indebted to our parents who turn out to support (and taxi) rain or shine.

Team news, reports and results will be added to this site along with photos of our trophies.

If you have any suggestions or comments, either about what you would like to see on these pages or about other sports we can introduce to our children, we would love to hear from you.

Sainsbury's School Games

The Sainsbury's School Games Mark is a Government led awards scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. Schools in England are able to assess themselves across bronze, silver and gold levels of the Mark.

Following an application from us in September 2015, we are pleased to announce that we have been awarded the Sainsbury's School Games GOLD Mark! This award reflects many things to do with our PE provision in school, including:

  • The quantity of high-quality PE lessons our children receive each week;
  • The amount of children participating in extra-curricular sporting activity each week;
  • The support we provide for our talented young sports people and less active children;
  • The number of competitive events we take part in each year.

Not only is receiving the Gold award a true reflection of the quality and opportunities Stocks Green provides for all children, but also a credit to the children for their engagement, talent and improvement across sports in school! Well done to everyone!

We are thrilled to announce that we have been awarded Gold Status this December, for the second year running!

Primary School Sports Premium

Stocks Green PE and School Sports is continually being developed and improved, now with the support of the Primary School Sports Premium funding. The purpose of this funding is to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport schools offer. The current areas for development of the funding in our school are: Subject Leadership, Staff CPD (training) opportunities, Healthy Living, Leadership and Sports clubs including School-club links and Inter-school competition.

Using the PE premium funding we are also hoping to maintain our Sainsbury School Games Gold award, as well as increase the participation and achievement within PE and School Sport at Stocks Green.

This year we expect to receive £8,920 from this fund. Of this we plan to spend, approximately:

  • 75% on external sports organisations. For example we pay TKSSP to provide PE and sport training for every teacher in our school, as well as other support staff. This means that our staff skills continue to increase in a sustainable manner.
  • 15% on sports visits. We pay for athletes to come and work with the children and subsidise travel to external events, such as a Kent County Cricket match.
  • 10% on any additional staff sports training and resources as required.

The impact can be felt across the school and includes:

  • academic attendance is improving as children are healthier and want to come to school
  • a very large proportion of our children participate in school clubs and numbers continue to grow
  •  we've been able to offer a wider range of activities, such as Judo, Basketball and skiing.

If you would like more detailed information about how we allocate funds, or if you have ideas on how we can further improve what we offer our children we would be delighted to discuss these with you.

Sports Clubs:

At the beginning of this academic year, we asked for small contributions towards all clubs - in most cases £10 for two terms. This is to cover costs above and beyond what the Primary Sports Premium can. For example: kits, costumes and club specific equipment.

Football club coaching will be held at school every week, even in very bad weather when we will use the hall.

I will always try to play our fixtures, even in poor weather. However, if the weather is appalling on the day or the pitch is too waterlogged, we will send out a text to cancel, which will arrive by 2pm latest.

Permission Slips

If your child is selected for an away fixture or performance, we must have a signed permission slip at least the day before, otherwise we cannot include the child. As fixture letters sometimes 'go missing', I though it might be helpful to have a generic permission slip here which you can print and fill in.

I am very grateful for all the extra running around parents do to support these events, so if there is any other way I can make the process easier please do let me know.

Jewellery and PE

Pupils are not permitted to wear jewellery or make up (including nail varnish) in school. In the case of pierced ears, small plain studs only are allowed.

Pupils with pierced ears may wear small plain stud earrings, but they MUST NOT be worn during any P.E. lessons for health and safety reasons. If pupils cannot take their own earrings out for P.E. then they will not be allowed to participate.

In very exceptional circumstances (e.g. newly pierced ears, infection or similar short term medical condition) the ear lobe may be taped temporarily (4 to 6 weeks) with non-allergic (hypo allergenic) microporous tape if it is necessary to retain the stud in place for medical reasons. Conventional first-aid sticking plasters must not be used for these cases. Parents MUST provide the tape for this purpose, as the school will not risk infection by providing tape for this purpose. Please note - this is a short term temporary measure and pupils are expected to be able to remove their own earrings and store them safely.

Watches must be removed for PE lessons
